I find that people often come to therapy because they are stuck. They could be struggling with their mood, with their fears, with addiction, with relationship issues, with stress. Whatever the issue, they don’t understand why they are stuck and, despite their best efforts, they don’t know how to become unstuck. Their attempts to use the typical psychological skills and strategies fail, not because of any personal failing, but because they haven’t been able to identify the causes of their problem.

To help overcome this, I use a case formulation approach. Together with the client, we work to understand the events and experiences that have shaped their life and how their response to those experiences has led to behaviour, thoughts and feelings that cause problems they find difficult to overcome.

We then develop evidence-based interventions that are tailored to the case formulation, that is, that specifically address the factors that cause and maintain the problems. Depending on the formulation, this might involve:

  • Cognitive therapy
  • Behavioural therapy
  • Schema therapy
  • Internal Family Systems
  • Short-term psychodynamic therapy
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy
  • Trauma-Focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

I work with adults, both individuals and couples, presenting with a wide range of issues. I specialise working with:

  • Trauma
  • Addiction
  • Gambling
  • Anger
  • Self-esteem
  • Depression
  • Anxiety and fears
  • Stress
  • Relationship problems

My fees are $250 per session for individuals and couples. A Medicare rebate of $145 per session is available for individual sessions for those with a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP. I also provide services to clients under the NSW Workers Compensation scheme.

I am a therapist and a clinical psychologist. I have been working with individuals and couples for over 25 years in Australia and England. I spent many years working as a Professional Officer providing advice to the Psychology Board of Australia and the Psychology Council of NSW regarding registration matters and complaints against psychologist. I currently guest lecture on the clinical masters program at the University of New England.
