Supervision for when a complaint has been made against a psychologist
More and more psychologists are having complaints made against them. In fact, if
you practice for 25 years, there is a better than 50/50 chance that a client will make a
notification about your practice to the regulatory body.
Receiving a complaint is an extremely stressful experience. It is confusing and
upsetting. It can seem very unfair and quite unjustified. You fear that you will be
labelled as unethical or unprofessional, or worse, that you will lose your livelihood.
Adding to this, the investigative process can drag on for literally years, while the fear
of all the possible outcomes hangs over your head. You feel like the profession has
abandoned you. At such times, supervisory support is vital.
I spent many years working for AHPRA and the HPCA providing advice about
registration and complaint matters to the Psychology Board of Australia and the
Psychology Council of New South Wales. I currently provide Independent Opinions
regarding complaint matters to AHPRA and I am a past Chair of the APS Ethics
Committee. I also provide supervision to a number of psychologists with conditions
on their registration.
These roles have given me an intimate knowledge of the regulatory process
surrounding complaint matters. This means I am able provide valuable assistance to
psychologists who are navigating their way through these difficult experiences.

Supervision fees are for:
Provisional Psychologists: $190 per session plus GST
Registrars: $210 per session plus GST
Fully registered psychologists: $230 per session plus GST
Psychologists with conditions: $260 per session plus GST
Note, these fees are tax deductable.
